It began in 1922…

What was once an experimental radio station at a engineering college became the largest, local, Christian radio network in the greater Capital Region of New York. Here’s more about Alive Radio:

In 1966, WHAZ-AM was going to be turned off. There was no need for it anymore. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute had a new radio station – WRPI – and WHAZ was simply a relic of a college radio engineering class from the past. But God had a different plan. A Christian family purchased WHAZ-AM and began broadcasting Gospel preaching and music – A first in the Capital District of New York. Then, in 1987, WHAZ-AM changed its ownership, but not its mission. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, as more stations were purchased, the ALIVE Radio Network was created. Through it all, our singular focus and greatest desire is that the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and the truth of salvation through faith in Him, would be proclaimed.

Today, we broadcast to over 1.5 million residents of Upstate New York, Vermont and Western Massachusetts and with the expansion of our digital broadcast, ALIVE Radio can now be heard around the WORLD! Only God knows what we’ll look like 30 years from now, but we pray every day that He’ll bring success to the work of our hands for HIS glory.

Meet Our Owner

Paul Lotters, President and CEO of Capital Media, is an Upstate New York native. He holds a Masters of Science in Education, a Masters of Professional Studies in Theology and Masters of Divinity.  He gave his life to the Lord as a young man and has dedicated himself to the spread of the Gospel, the building of the Kingdom of Heaven and the equipping of the saints.

In the 1970’s and 80’s Paul owned a professional counseling practice, but was given the opportunity to purchase our flagship station – WHAZ 1330 AM – in 1986. His vision and desire to reach the lost compelled him to purchase four additional FM stations and the ALIVE Radio Network was born.

Those who know Paul have to come to love his gentle nature, his generosity, his emphatic way of speaking and his love for the Lord.

Paul and his wife, Arlene, are also owners of a non-profit charitable foundation – Long Shadows – and organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of horses.
